You can do ftp with the Gnome file manager - Places --> Connect to
server . The KDE file manager also does ftp - I think you just enter
ftp:// in the location box ( I don't have KDE here as I am not running
Kubuntu on this box)
In Nautilus ( Gnome) you can also hit ctrl + L to get a location field, and
type ftp://user@host.whatever.org In either case the system should prompt
for a password.
There is also " gftp" which is a dedicated ftp client, but for most
purposes Nautilus or Konqueror should work fine, unless you are a heavy
ftp user. Drag and drop etc work too - just open a couple of windows.
By the way, both Nautilus and Konqueror will do ssh/sftp in a similar
manner. "Connect to server" in Gnome should also put an icon on your
desktop that you can click for access to the server.
If you are a *genuine geek* you can also explore the command line ftp and
lftp programs ;-)) ( lftp would need to be installed - either through
synaptic package manager or with " sudo aptitude install lftp " for
example. )
