If all you want is simple 3D, like the kind you see generated by Compiz/Beryl
(on XGL/AIGLX), a modern embedded Intel chipset should be fine. I have seen
Compiz run quite well on modest hardware with embedded Intel graphics. The
main benefits are cost (they often come with your motherboard) and 100% FLOSS
drivers.
