I've come in late on this thread, but has anyone suggested modifying
Firefox default for IPv6:
enter 'about:config' in the url panel and scroll down to the line
reading 'network.dns.disableIPv6 default boolean false' double click on
this line changes 'false' to 'true', which may enable Firefox to see the
connection.

If that works, the the modification to enable Evolution was in my system
much more complicated...
