Without having seen this entire thread, I would suggest booting the install
DVD/CD with the option 'acpi-off' set. Just include that at the boot prompt
(without the quotes) before pressing Enter.
The installer is a cut down version of the OS and can sometimes have problems
with ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface). Temporarily turning
it off can help counteract this.
You will more than likely want to turn ACPI back on when you have your full
system up and running. If this tip works for you, and you don't know how to
re-enable ACPI, just send another message to the list.
