ubuntu-au Digest, Vol 23, Issue 16

Have been doing some more research after reading what has been posted
here. I am looking at the following:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L ) $110

Video Card: Gigabyte 8500 GT 256 MB $88.00

HDD: 3.5" HDD SATA-300 320GB 16MB Seagate SV35 (ST3320620SV) $105

CPU? The suggested INTEL CORE2DUO E8200 2.66Ghz/1333 at $250 is a little
above my intended budget. Any ideas on a cheaper chip that would still
give me good performance. I am not a big gamer, Starcraft and Wesnoth is
about all we run. I don't do any video editing either. Main concern is
that it works with Ubuntu and fits my budget.

Ram? I am presently running 2x512 which give me dual channel. I bought
the two pieces of ram around 3 years apart and it enable dual channel on
my 3 year old computer. Should I still take that option of buying two
separate cards but move up to 2x1Gb or buy 2x1Gig as a set (more
expense). Third option is just go for a straight 2Gig card.

Case w/ Power Supply: What size power supply would you recommend for the
above set up?

All the above prices where from www.itestate.com.au which was a site
suggested by Liam. Will do some further shopping when I figure out what
I really want/need.

I suppose I could try to put it all together myself as I have replaced
every piece of equipment in a computer over the years except a
motherboard. Will have to look into that further:) Thanks for all the
replies, it is much appreciated.

Cheers
Todd
