I don't think backporting it is terribly useful.... The most compelling
usecase of upgrading of ntfsprogs is more reliable resizing or
partitioning, which is more important on the LiveCD than anywhere else.

Nonetheless if it builds in Edgy/Dapper I'd be happy to look at it.
