The updated version doesn't lose any files, but adds these to the deb:

The differences in the build dependencies are:

 * debhelper dependency goes from ">=5" to ">=6"
 * texlive-font-utils dependency loosened, to "texlive-font-utils | texlive-extra-utils (<< 2009)"
 * Three added dependencies: devscripts (>= 2.10.7~), cdbs, dh-buildinfo

All of these dependencies are satisfied in ubuntu lucid core repository,
they're all standard debian-packaging things.

I've backported it to lucid in my PPA (no changes except changelog):
https://launchpad.net/~danstowell/+archive/ppa/

It works fine for me here (on mythbuntu lucid, building a supercollider
deb [using the standard scons from lucid repo]).
