  There is a very annoying bug in patch 2.6 that is resolved in 2.6.1, the original bug report is here:

  Basically patch chooses the wrong file name when creating files that do
  not exist in the 'new name' path instead of the 'original name' path.
  
  Hopefully this bug report is in the right place.  It should probably
  apply through natty (oneiric has 2.6.1).
