  Reason for the backport:
  ========================
  mtpaint in Precise LTS is still version 3.31 which did get the suffix alpha-status from it's dev.

  Version 3.40 offers some exiting changes + it has left the alpha status
  as declared in the changelog (listing all here would presumeably bubble
  up this bugreport innessecarily)
  
  since it is provided within he universe-section we'd like to ask to have
  it backported.

  It is already packaged in higher versions of Ubuntu (12.10, 13.04,
  13.10).
