I have built 2012.1-1ubuntu2 on precise and was able to run some of the
pycuda examples; hello_gpu, SimpleSpeedTest and Mandelbrot.

** Description changed:

  Please backport pycuda 2012.1-1ubuntu3 (multiverse) from raring to
  precise.

  Reason for the backport:
  ========================
  pycuda was included in Debian too late to make it into Precise, but it is a useful package for education where the use of LTS releases is common.

  Testing:
  ========
  Mark off items in the checklist [X] as you test them, but please leave the checklist so that backporters can quickly evaluate the state of testing.

  You can test-build the backport in your PPA with backportpackage:
  $ backportpackage -u ppa:<lp username>/<ppa name> -s raring -d precise pycuda

  Backported package available here:
  https://launchpad.net/~ginggs/+archive/backports

  * precise:
  [X] Package builds without modification
- [ ] python-pycuda-headers installs cleanly and runs
- [ ] python-pycuda installs cleanly and runs
+ [X] python-pycuda-headers installs cleanly and runs
+ [X] python-pycuda installs cleanly and runs
  [X] python-pycuda-doc installs cleanly

  No reverse dependencies
