your localhost directory should be on /var/www/
you just need to change the directory permission once
sudo nautilas
browse to /var right click on www and change permission going to
properties...
NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER you should be as root constantly.......
Think of what happens when you are constantly granted direct access to
critical system files in Windows Operating system........
and even knowing the risk you want to login as root.. its fine with us..
after all its your system your headache.. :P
