First you have to tell us, Which keyboard layout is familiar to you?

If you prefer *probhat* or national then go to *System > Preferences >
Keyboard*. Then go to the *Layout* tab. Click on *Add* button and Select
either of them.

If you prefer *Avro Phonetic* then please visit this
link<http://omicronlab.com/forum/Avro-Phonetic-for-Linux-scim-avro-has-been-updated-t2029.html>.

If you are looking for *Unijoy* then I am afraid you need Ubuntu 9.10.

Feel free to ask any questions. As you are a newbie I recommend you to visit
this link <http://forum.amaderprojukti.com/ubuntuindex> and this
