Hi,
I'm Mark Van den Borre:
* Debian user since 1998 (and still on servers)
* Ubuntu user since the very beginning, see
https://launchpad.net/people/mark-markvdb
* owner of the vrijesoftware.be domain name ("logiciellibre.be")
* maintainer of openstandaarden.be
* FOSDEM volunteer since 2002
* sysadmin for a Debian thin client lab at a primary school
* classical guitar teacher for a living (no, really!)
A few thoughts on ubuntu-be:
* I like initiatives where something is actually done. Example: Bertrand's
frappr map:
> http://www.frappr.com/ubuntubelgiumlocalteam
BTW, there was already a frappr map of ubuntu distribution points for nl_be
at
http://vrijesoftware.be/verdeelpunten.html .
I didn't make any publicity about this, because frappr has its limitations.
I'm working on a map that uses the Google API directly. More flexible
administration. Customisation gives lots of possibilities.
I'd rather not have talked about it until it was finished, but I figured I
should now there was talk about maps.
I need help to get this done fast and well. I'm not a PHP wonder! Please
contact me!
* We're a volunteer initiative. We need to keep overhead (infrastructure,
maintenance,...) as low as possible. Example: web space/CMS. We're
ubuntu-be. If we need web space(?), we could probably be able to get that
from ubuntu.{com,org}. For a start, making an inventory of what ubuntu
promotion projects people are actually working on/using is probably enough.
* Press contacts.

language.

A "team" is nice, but when you haven't intensively worked together yet, it
is often an umbrella under which it is comfortable to hide and do nothing.
It's different when you have one person in charge. His main job is then
doing the job himself, or shouting for help if he can't manage alone.
It's probably wisest to limit such a responsibility in time...
So, if noone else stands up, I will happily be the main ubuntu-nl_be/vl
press contact/team/whatever until 2007/04/20.
* Communication with ubuntu-nl, ubuntu-fr,...

I smell overhead here. I would just trust people on ubuntu-nl and ubuntu-fr
to cc their important messages to ubuntu-be.
* Urgent goals.

Good idea. Here's a first attempt:
* Gather press contacts. I will take care of this on the nl_be/vl side.
* Finish custom ubuntu distribution point maps. I need help with this!!
