As a free software evangelist, I try to be very careful. If the
convert can't survive without the support of a geek, he's potentially
lost.

I create realistic expectations in potential converts. I never promote
dual boot, wine or other things that potentially require more profound
technical knowledge than you can expect from an end user.

I show good practices. I seduce potential converts to taste a little
bit of freedom with minimal investment. Installing Ubuntu on a
somewhat aging big brand computer is really a good example. It doesn't
cost a lot, if anything, and on the technical side, with mostly well
supported Intel hardware, an almost 100% success rate.

Having said that, shipping a release with a bug as critical as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/89853 known
for over a month before release is not good practice. I will
definitely make this clear to my contacts at Canonical.
