Hey ho,
I usually enjoy sticking to lurking from a quiet corner,
but as I like both languages and communication as a topic,
and also: being a Belgian just like most if not all here,
I felt obliged to offer my proverbial 5 eurocents. :)

First off, I wouldn't call it "treating each other like
foreigners". It's just common sense: in a mixed bag, you
go for the lowest common denominator, which in our little
triangular and trilingual country happens to be another,
fourth language. :)
More importantly though, I don't see how language use could
influence the becoming (or not) of "a real" ubuntu-be
community. Surely I can see why English is easier to produce
and/or understand for some as it is for others, but language
still essentially is only about communication, meaning I
couldn't care less what language mails coming from this
list are written in.
If an author considers his topic only relevant to certain
parts of the population here, or for some other reason is
unable or unwilling to offer several versions or an English
version, who am I to care or object? "next mail bitte schnell
kthxba1" is all I'd think. ;)
Cheers auf jeden Fall,
Tom (whose French is still in the alpha stages)
