Almost certainly dupe of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/399555 but I was
doing an apt-get upgrade on desktop over a slightly newer kernel
(2.6.30-8-generic) in case the attached are useful.

Also note after a refresh in update manager the UI hung (spinning weight
cursor but no CPU usage), so I killed Update Manager and did the upgrade
from terminal,
