Acredito ter conseguido resolver o problema, descobri que eu estava 
gravando numa frequência (22050) inferior à mínima suportada pelo meu 
hardware (44100). Depois que defini a frequência para 44100, gravei um 
evento ao vivo por mais de 2 horas e o sistema não caiu.

Fiz assim (Audacity):
entrei no menu "Ajuda" - "Dispositivos de áudio" e apareceu o resultado 
abaixo, observe que a frequência mínima suportada para os canais 
analógicos (Analog) é de 44100 e para HDMI de 32000:
