It's still a problem on ubuntu/kubuntu 7.04:

When I choose "Duplicate CD" and select an ISO-image (4GB) as source and
have an empty DVD+R in the drive, graveman says:

    Please insert an empty or appendable CDR/RW in drive Optiarc DVD RW
AD-7173A Removable CD-ROM to continue...

    Currently: a DVDR

Strictly spoken, "Duplicate CD" is not duplicating a *DVD*, but I really
doubt if this behaviour is on purpose.
