I have had the same intermittent issue for the past 12 months, has happened 80% of the time.
Yesterday occurred burning DVD .iso image but not when doing data DVD burn.

I'm running XUBUNTU 8.04 with SATA DVD burner:
ATAPI: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH20NS10, EL00, max UDMA/100
