Could some of your issues be related to a TAO vs. SAO write mode issue
as described in my (yet unconfirmed) bug

? (Analysis is in Comment#1) I can get wodim to work reliably from the
command line if I force -sao. But all the GUI tools or wodim by default
use TAO and that causes a short write as described above. I list related
debian bug 427771 and some further analysis on a list as well.

Is my bug a duplicate of this one, or are we seeing different issues?
