connect to Internet Provider

Recently I received a live CD Ubuntu, I tried it it work find until I tried to connect to my IP. After I enter the information in System --administration--networking settings. Under connection I click on properties  I check mark this device is configured. Enter the phone number. Under Account data Enter my username My password. Under modem I enter the port modem which is /dev//ttyS0 Dial type=tone, Volume=loud. Under Options I check mark set modem as default route to internet. I click OK. The modem dial the phone number of my IP after a few seconds I hear busy signal and the phone line die.
I have us robotics 56k v90 model harware. I use mandrake 10.1 software and my modem works fine. Is there other information I must enter or get.
