Welcome to Ubuntu and Ubuntu-ca!

Is this the only PC you are connecting to your high speed/ADSL modem? If so 
you probably want to have a look at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ADSLPPPoE

If you would like to connect multiple machine you may want to investigate a 
router/gateway solution such as those offered by companies like linksys and 
d-link.
