G'day

My name is James and I'm considering switching to a linux O/S (ubuntu
ver.6.06)
Because all I've ever known is MS(windows) I'm concerned about
How this will affect my programs and applications (please excuse me if I do
not use the correct terminology)
By programs and applications I'm refering to things like my screen
saver(webshots), antivirus(avg)
my printer and digital camera. Also what about opening things like Power
Point and PDF documemts.
