You need linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-10-generic, nvidia-glx and 
whatever dependencies they pull in. Don't worry about nvidia-settings 
for now, it's a gui for setting antialiasing and colours etc.

You need to edit the line in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file under the 
devices section from "nv" to "nvidia" and ctrl+alt+bksp to restart X. 
You should be ready to go after that.
