Ubuntu has a strict policy of not introducing new upstream version by
default, unless absolutely necessary (currently only Firefox is like
this, due to Mozilla's boneheaded security policies). As such, OO.o
2.1 will not be seen in any version of Ubuntu already released, except
as a backport.
Cheers,
Corey
Thanks for that info. I guess if I really want to see the newest version,
I'll have to install it myself (if it's not too complicated and/or time
consuming!) I have one caveat with this system, particularly in relation to
6.06 LTS: Ubuntu should provide newer versions of core software, especially
if the version is called "Long Term Support". Nonetheless, this is only a
small complaint.
I guess what I really want to know now is if it's worth it? Are there that
many changes in OO.o 2.1 to bother with the trouble of removing the old and
installing the new? Or would I be better off to just wait until Feisty comes
out and have the newest version there?
