As you know I am a Newbie and do not know which version of Xubuntu will
work with 80 megs of R AM on board?

Not a problem. Glad I can help. One thiung I forgot to mention: you
need to download the alternate ISO, as seen here:
    http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/6.10/release/

The one you'll want to download is either
    xubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso <http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/6.10/release/xubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso>
    or
    xubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso.torrent <http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/6.10/release/xubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso.torrent>
if you have a Bit Torrent client, but the regular ISO should also download fairly quickly.

Both these versions, because the don't have the graphical installer, will work on your machine with 80 megs of RAM.
Once you've downloaded and burned the ISO onto CD, you'll need to do the following:

Insert the CD into the CD Rom of your machine and reboot. When it's rebooting, watch very closely, because you'll probably need to press a key during the initial BIOS startup; sometimes this is F12, sometimes F8, sometimes ESC, etc. It really depends on the machine.
This will bring you to a boot option screen. You'll want to pick CD ROM as your boot option (and not hard drive, floppy, etc.).
This will bring you to the Xubuntu install screen. Click install and go from there. You'll start the installation sequence.
Please let me know how this works, and/or if you run into trouble.
Also, one thing to know: whatever machine name, username and password you use for your machine, mark it down on a piece of paper, at least for now. You'll need that when the system reboots. (also, these are case-sensitive).

Good Luck, and don't feel indimitated. Your machine will work:)
