Hi Bob,
I haven't participated to the conversation but I feel that you are not
getting an answer because the question is not asked in the right place.
There are a lot of answers you can get from Ubuntu-CA list however you will
get quicker answers from the user support lists. Before you give up
entirely, may I suggest a few places on the net?
If you are having trouble with codecs and that sort of things, the place to
go is the Multimedia & Video support forum:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=138
If you feel that your problem is more an installation issue, the place to go
is the Installation and Upgrade support forum:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=140
I don't know if you knew it already but here's the website of the Victoria
Linux User Group (VLUG). On the website you can get contact info for various
mailing lists and other stuff to get in touch with the people over there.
Maybe a phone call or jump in for a group meeting, you will surely find an
answer to your questions.

All I can say is hang on! Using linux can be frustrating at times (believe
me, I had - and stil have - my load of frustrations) but it is really fun in
the end.
Hope this helps!
