I'm interested in starting a translation effort for Anishnaabemowin (AKA
Ojibwe/Odawa/Oji-Cree), along the same lines as Corey's
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuInuktitut "crazy idea". I am just
starting to learn the language in university, so don't have a lot of
personal knowledge yet, although I am getting some good contacts for
this sort of thing. I am wondering if anyone else on the list has
connections to Ojibwe speakers that might be willing to help. My
professors here speak the Central dialect (Manitoulin Island), and are
not very tech-savvy, so we may have trouble getting many of the sorts of
words needed for an Ubuntu translation. However, one prof in particular
is pretty high up on the national translators stage, so I have at least
secondary access to quite a bit theoretically. It would be especially
helpful if anyone knows people or organizations in other dialect
regions, as the newer the word, the more variance there will be (meaning
computer-related words may be totally different from one place to the
next). Any feedback, contacts, or suggestions welcome.
