... the other thing to worry about, if course, is the *finally*
dwindling number of applications that don't run properly on 64-bit
systems. I think the list still includes the following:
-flash players
-mozilla java plugins
maybe i'm missing something? i find that everything runs flawlessly in
the default mode except for my daughter's internet flash games, which,
to be honest, i'd just as soon have broken since they drive me crazy.

these issues can be solved with workarounds, either by installing a
minimal 32-bit chroot, or by installing ia32libs and a 32-bit browser
and copying the relevant plugin files to the 32bit library locations.
this can all be a little bit frustrating but is not going to be
impossible (unlike on powerpc computers, where certain plugins, esp.
flash, are entirely missing).

there are howto's to walk you through that stuff, if you have trouble
finding them i'm sure the list will help you track them down.

of course you can ALSO always opt to install a 32-bit system -- though
at this point i don't think it's worth the hit you'll take (a year ago
or so there were more problems, like openoffice.org not running properly
-- now THAT was a bummer).
