Obviously you have to eliminate the old installation files sufficiently.
If you do not have a perl script that will do this (you could
double-check and see if there are any vmware related perl scripts on
your hard drive with
find / -iname "*vmware*" | grep "\.pl"
) then you will have to search out and delete the offending files
manually.
