Sata Problem

6.10 and 6.06 work wonderfully on my laptop which is a sata system. The
issue resides completely with ubuntu and the kernel modules they decided
to include with the 7.04 release default kernel. This version of the
kernel and the subsequent kernel updates do not include all of the
mecessary sata modules to get sata chipsets working. The quickest way to
see if your system is compatible is to run the 7.04 live cd and load
Gparted. Gparted with either see the drive or not.

If you happened to know the particular module you need and it happened to reside on your computer during install, you can try and load it using modprobe when the system dumps you into the tinylinux boot loader. I tried loading as many of the sata modules as I could find on the system to no avail. Something either was left out in the new builds or ...shrug. myself and my co-worker who use ubuntu as a primary os for a number of servers have decided that we are going to wait until this problem gets fixed.
