If we see a tool in our toolbox generally we have a good idea how to use it.

It's Friday afternoon... if this seems a little long and drawn out it's
probably due to a long day and stress... just ponder this idea for a
second...

I was thinking today while I was in my tiny little broom closet of a
tech area why I tend to use third party programs to fix Windows
problems... and even use Linux to fix Windows problems... you all must
know of ERD... The wonderful live CD used to reset Windows passwords
(found out today it works on Vista)... Regardless... I find myself
using my Ubuntu Live CD quite a bit to access NTFS file systems... to
change partition tables.... to fix tons of Windows errors (and no I am
not picking on Windows... it just tends to be the topic of most
days)... Now I am even looking at virus scanning NTFS partitions with
AVG from a live ubuntu CD...Wouldn't that knock tech repair hours
down... love the idea....

If we see a hammer we hopefully know what it does... When we see
Ubuntu... do we know what it does? It doesn't matter who makes it...
doesn't matter if most of the world uses other tools... what does Ubuntu
do? YOU all know what it does... It's a great operating system... it
allows us to do things... non linux users don't know that though.

I imagine that this list is broken up into small groups probably each
trying to come up with new ways for people to use the Ubuntu
distribution... My thought for the day was maybe we should introduce the
system as specific tool to begin with... In my case it will be "The
wonderful and Amazing live CD that can scan NTFS partitions for
viruses"... <sarcasm> I shall call it.......... "The virus scanner"
</sarcasm>. My point is that the other techs in my area actually liked
the crewed tool I was putting together and most of them have never heard
of linux...

Something to ponder.....
