I guess if you can't open synaptic then perhaps you should follow Duda's
post

You can try creating a source file here:
http://www.ubuntu-nl.org/source-o-matic/
and then copy the content to /etc/apt/sources.list by editing the file:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
and copying the generated content of source-o-matic there
