I'd second Scott's response: are you certain that the CD is a good burn?

The last time I installed Edgy, I kept getting stuck with similar
symptoms.  Try using the "test this CD" options on the boot menu.
When I ran it, it identified several media errors.  After reburning
the same ISO, everything worked fine.
