MP-BIOS BUG

On boot up, I always get the following error message:

MP-BIOS BUG: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC

To date this has not been a problem, but when I attempted to install the
driver for my Logitech Quickcam Messenger using ./quickcam.sh, all
appeared to go well except for a failure reported during the final
build. Here's the excerpt:

[ 126.533289] ENABLING IO-APIC IRQs
[ 126.533467] ..TIMER: vector=0x31 apic1=0 pin1=2 apic2=-1 pin2=-1
[ 126.573185] ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
[ 126.573225] ...trying to set up timer (IRQ0) through the 8259A ...
failed.

Has anyone any ideas how to fix this MP-BIOS bug? Should I amend
boot/grub/menu.lst to get a noapic boot? If so, how do I do this? Or
perhaps I should just invest in some new non-HP hardware! :-( :-( :-(

Many thanks in advance, Maurice

PS I also have found the following start up error. How serious would
this be, or can I just ignore it as it doesn't show prior to grub loading?

[ 0.142327] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 3 of device 0000:00:00.0
