Gutsy under VMware Fusion on a new Intel Mac

It took a few hours overnight, but my upgrade to 7.10 completed
successfully. Those who run Ubuntu as a virtual machine on a Mac may
find this interesting.
So far, I haven't encountered any huge problems. 7.10 does seem to take
much longer to boot up though. I have lost the scrolling action of the
middle mouse button that I was there under 7.04. And it appears to me
that the repainting of the Ubuntu window when one resizes it seems a bit
slower. Also, I have noticed that occasionally the mouse cursor gets
"stuck" in the corners or edges of the window, and one must execute
control-Command to unfreeze it--Fusion users will know what I am talking
about. I needed to reinstall VMware Tools, and I expected that this
utility does not have everything it needs yet to be seamlessly
compatible with Gutsy. I am hoping that the VMware developers are aware
of this and in subsequent upgrades VMware Tools best accommodates the
new OS. It is noteworthy that under Gutsy the VMware drivers appear on
the restricted drivers list. Never saw this warning under Feisty, where
all worked smoothly.
A big plus for me is the upgrade to OpenOffice 2.3. I found some
cosmetic issues with version 2.2 in the creation of PDF files that drove
me a little nuts and discouraged me from using Ubuntu for word
processing. I have tested some of my "problem" files with 2.3, and all
seems resolved. I am also pleased to see that Gutsy packs with
Thunderbird as well as Evolution--as a long time Netscape Mail user, I
far prefer the former.
I don't hear much from others here about using Ubuntu as a virtual
machine with another OS. Perhaps that is the very point :) At any rate,
I thought I would share a few observations on my particularly experience.
