There are a couple of ways to getting the restricted plugins to work. One
of the first things I do after an install of a new version of Ubuntu is use
the wonderful resource found at www.ubuntuguide.org.<http://www.ubuntuguide.org>
This is a well written guide to making our favourite OS work better and
bridge the gap from what we want and what we are used to. To install the
restricted drivers/codes from the Console run this command:
sudo aptitude install ubuntu-restricted-extras
