When you upgrade the video resolution may decrease

In my case 1920x1600 back to 800x600

all I had to do enable my nVidia drivers again.

in synaptic package manager make sure restricted in enabled.

then search for nVidia or ATI and download drivers.

in my case it was nvidia-glx-new and nvida-kernel-common, and after 
install and reboot everything was back to normal

Now, UNLIKE my Vista disk, that I will have to do a full recovery after 
SP1 install GRRR.

This was painless
