Sound, video & other Hardy issues

Just finished upgrading this machine to Hardy, and there's a couple of
things that're tempting me to "upgrade" back to Gutsy instead...

Flash sound has stopped working.

Likewise, a number of video files that had working sound in Gutsy
don't in Hardy. A few files have even stopped being playable in Totem
at all.

A random selection of vids are being shown at about half speed, with
no sound at all.

On the other hand, Inkscape 0.46 is seriously awesome, and the new
"international clock" calendar function is great - if only it had a
UTC/GMT/Zulu timezone easily selectable.

Anyone got a sound fix, or is this just more evidence of continued
gstreamer mediocrity?
