No internet in Intrepid

For reasons known only to the gods of the Internet I read your responses,
switched back to Ubuntu - et voila! Here I am. Why, I don't begin to know.
Thank you both - you must have worked some voodoo magic out there.

Now if I could just get the screen resolution fixed (NVIDIA card; I worked
out a solution for Hardy not so long ago and I'm sure I can find it again
for Intrepid.
