No internet in Intrepid

Hi David:
I had the problem with dial-up. However there were a few people in this
forum that pointed me to the Terminal, and PPPconfig and a few other
items that made it possible to get on the Internet again. My connection
was slower, so I don't have the Modem Baud numbers right at the moment.
When I have a bit of time I'll try to fix that.
Alfred!

I tried upgrading to Intrepid today from Hardy. Alas, no
Internet! I can see the rest of the network, but not the world
outside. Same problem whether I'm hard-wired with ethernet or
using the wireless network. Right now I'm connected using Vista
on the same machine. I haven't found anything like this on the
ubuntu forums or with google. Any advice?
