Is the Hardy stable enough to upgrade?

It is not that bad.  On a laptop, there are power management issues for me,
but everything else is fine. There are occasional install issues, depending
upon which build you try.  The forums will get you our of trouble fairly
quickly.

If you cannot be w/o your computer for a night or two, then don't do it.
