Did an update, now Kubuntu can't log in

You're wonderful! I've been shut out of KDE and stuck with Gnome for weeks
now and couldn't find any help on Ubuntu forums (probably not searching
right). I knew it was something to do with an upgrade that I'd blindly
installed but couldn't figure out which one. I was almost ready to
reinstall. You saved me a lot of trouble.
