Try again on Saturday :). Seriously, though, the reason the Windows
one is less expensive is that there is a $180 discount on the
Windows-based laptops, which expires at the end of Friday. For
details, see:

http://configure.dell.com/dellstore/DiscountDetails.aspx?~lt=print&c=ca&CS=cadhs1&fb=1&l=en&OC=N1525PDV_F_1E

At their regular prices, the Ubuntu laptop is $50 cheaper than an
identically-configured Windows laptop. And the Windows laptop only
comes with Vista Home Basic.

It is unfortunate that Dell doesn't discount both Ubuntu and Windows
computers at the same time, but that's how they do it. When and why
Dell discounts certain machines is a mystery to most people.

There is more discussion about these pricing issues at:

get them to apply the discount to the Ubuntu machine as they may have
meant to apply the discount to both OSes, but missed Ubuntu for some
reason.
