Installing on Mac G4

I am new to ubuntu linux and I heard you can install the Linux os on a Mac infrastructure. In fact it says so on the main ubuntu website under the heading 'system requirements'. The problem is it doesn't say which mac it works on. Does it only work on intel mac or is there a version I would have to order that would install on a G4 mac. If ubuntu can't be installed  on a mac then may I ask you if you know of a version of linux that does work on a mac. Please get back to me with your answer as soon as you can. I am looking forward to trying it out.
