Domain name stuff?

Hi
 
I registered with DynDNS but now they want money or the domain name I have will expire.
 
I'm going to try these people at FreeDNS.afraid.org. But I don't know if they are any good? Will they also behave like Mafia gangsters and try to hold my domain name and computer hostage for $$?
 
Does anyone know of any free domain name services where I can register my own computer and not have it expire or have these pirates want $$ from me for setting up my own computer?
