I followed
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades/Kubuntu
and all went +-as it suggests
two anomalies:
it warned me of two config changes: one to cups, one to smb.conf- both
of which I refused. That said, my printer seems to be intact thus far
tom at fawn:~$ locate smb.conf
locate: can not open `/var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db': No such file or
directory
what am I missing here?
However:
when I tried apt-get in a console I got this:
tom at fawn:~$ sudo apt-get update
sudo: unable to resolve host fawn
I dug around in forum a bit, and found that /etc/hosts had been
modified, with 'fawn' removed from localhost. Sudo doesn't work at all
(returns the 'unable to resolve' message, and right-click>edit as root
doesn't work in Dolphin either. I had to reboot in recovery mode to get
root access, did the edit to /etc/hosts, and now it works fine.
Why this modification? No idea- I did nothing to antagonize the update
faeries that I'm aware of
Second anomaly:
the Reboot Required box came up before the Cleanup was finished, and
then it rebooted entirely on its own (ie I touched nothing)
Is there something I should do now to force the cleanup to complete itself?
other than those, it all seems to be working just fine
