Hey Alfred,
Actually, the two issues are completely unrelated.  There was indeed an SSL
bug introduced in Debian that was fixed last week, but it is a separate
issue from what you're seeing.  Firefox 3 changed how it handled invalid
security certificates compared to Firefox 2, and while annoying for some
people, this is actually the desired behavior.  Unfortunately, I'm on my way
out the door, so I'm marking this thread "ToDo" and will try to give a more
thorough explanation later.
