scanner shopping with ubuntu hardy

Hi Anita:

I'm using an HP SCSI Scanner, and it works very well with Xine. It's an
older one, possibly not on sale any more. HP has a set of tools for
their printers and their Scanners, usually you can get both working,
when you get one of those All - in - One Contraptions.

I am shopping in Central Ontario for a scanner that is compatible with
Ubuntu Hardy.

I welcome suggestions of what makes and models work well and also what
retail outlets carry such. I need to ensure the scanner works before I
purchase, so the ability to test the unit with my laptop is essential.
