Well, to start with, make /home a separate partition. Preferably on a
separate drive, but at least a separate partition. For the shared
partition, make it a FAT32 partition. Beyond that, a couple GB for swap
(depending on your usage needs...but best to have at least some swap
IMO) and the remainder for /.
